Following a recent spate of pandemics, business continuity planning in the UK is improving, it has been claimed.
Sheila Bailey-Wood, director of operations at the country's body for national standards BSI British Standards believes that as a result of factors such as recent floods, agricultural diseases, IT-related disasters and even climate change, businesses are now starting to consider the implementation of business continuity strategies.
Data recently released by BSI British Standards shows that of those companies listed on the FTSE 250, a majority (81 per cent) believe that they could operate effectively for up to a total of seven days before being significantly impacted upon by some form of disruption.
"I certainly think alongside the terrorism and climatic things, the pandemics are really drawing attention to the need to have business continuity as well," said Ms Bailey-Wood.
"Part of a component of business continuity is making a judgement on the risks that your individual businesses face," she added.
