Polish tradesman ease city's shortage
An influx of Polish tradesman into Edinburgh is easing the shortage of workers such as builders, electricians and plumbers, it has been revealed.
According to reports from the Scotsman, with approximately 30,000 migrants from the EU's recent accession countries coming to Edinburgh over the last three years, there has been an increase in the number of Polish migrants establishing their own small to medium-sized enterprises.
"There are a significant number of Polish businesses that have set up in the city and it's always increasing," said Graham Bell, a representative from the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce. "We don't have enough young people coming into these [skilled trade] industries so it is great news that immigrant workers are being attracted here," he added.
Indeed, according to Mr Bell, many of Poland's first wave of migrants came to the city and primarily found employment within the unskilled sector.
The recent members of the European Union include the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
