Online marketing offers significant advantages for SMEs

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) who are looking for a new way to publicise their businesses may find some benefits from online marketing, it has been suggested.

Peter Hawtin, director of marketing consultancy Brand New Way, said that SMEs are increasingly discovering that online marketing tactics work for them.

Emails, newsletters and blogs are some of the ways in which people can take advantage of this trend, he explained.

At the same time, Mr Hawtin said that different firms' varying needs help inform which strategy they use for advertising.

"The essence of marketing is delivering the right message to the right people in the right way," he remarked.

"Therefore, what is the right solution for one business may be different to others, but certainly direct marketing and traditional marketing still have a role to play but it is getting harder."

Recent statistics from the Direct Mail Information Service indicate that direct mail accounts for 12.5 per cent of all expenditure within advertising.
