Online marketing is cost-effective for SMEs

One way to cut the overheads of starting a new business is to utilise an online marketing policy, StartupCo suggests.
Small businesses may find the cost of marketing to be a strain on top of necessary expenses such as property rental and business insurance, but John de Groot, managing director of the West Sussex-based advisory firm, believes the answer could lie online.
Mr de Groot holds that by setting up a website, a small business owner is tapping into a cost-effective way of generating more sales without necessarily expending much more of their own time.
"For some small businesses, sales through a website can offer a low-investment growth opportunity, with potentially a high return on that investment," he says.
However, just as business insurance is a vital safety net for any company, so is web security for those who choose to deal online. Mr de Groot recommends anybody thinking of harnessing the power of the web should use online shopping carts, merchant accounts and payment encryption systems to reduce any risks.
