A new survey has identified the UK as a good location for business start-ups, it has emerged.

The results of a study by Harris Interactive have identified that, although a number of Britons do not spend a considerable amount of time pondering enterprise, the view among the population is relatively positive when the environment for the development of a new business is considered.

The survey by Harris Interactive, a firm specialising in internet-orientated market research, was conducted for the Financial Times.

"We come close to the US for things like availability of finance and we grumble a lot about red tape," said Rebecca Harding, a representative from Delta Economics.

Despite the positive sentiment, a majority of Britons (86 per cent) expressed concern over the levels of bureaucracy within the UK

Overwhelmingly however, of those asked about the merits of the current climate in the UK for starting a business, a large number were indifferent, expressing neither agreement or disagreement.
