Most employees prefer hard work to get ahead

A majority of employees believe that career success is obtained through hard work, a new survey has found.

According to the results of a survey by recruitment site Monster, 70 per cent of respondents confirmed their belief in being rewarded for work actually undertaken, reports Online Recruitment.

The site offers services in a number of countries, including Mexico and Kuwait.

However, two per cent of respondents did admit to being prepared to directly act against a fellow worker as a strategy for career success.

"I would certainly not endorse extreme measures to further a career - it is a good sign that the majority of respondents rely on hard work to secure a promotion," said Rob Brouwer, chief executive of Monster UK and Ireland.

"However, getting the job done may not be enough to guarantee promotion," he added.

Monster's findings were based upon a study of 4,254 respondents.
