More SMEs should consider agencies to aid recruitment

Recruitment agencies have been highlighted as a beneficial resource for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Victoria Winkler, a representative from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) - an organisation with a membership base of 127,000 - believes that while SMEs can certainly adopt a number of different avenues when recruiting new members of staff, employment agencies "have their place".
"Recruitment agencies certainly have their place in recruitment across the different spectrum of businesses," said Ms Winkler.
"One of the issues with SMEs is that they're less likely to have a dedicated resource … in small businesses it's likely to be somebody doing it as part of their ordinary day job."
However, Ms Winkler believes that when engaging in the recruitment process, SMEs may also work with a nearby job centre and may also employ an approach that is more involved.
