Money can be saved by businesses being greener

Although many businesses are doing "all right" at adopting environmentally-friendly measures there is still more they could be doing, one advisory service has claimed.

NetRegs, a government-run organisation, said small-to-medium business enterprises (SMEs) could do their bit for the environment and save themselves money by adopting more eco-friendly practices.

According to the website, many SMEs need to seek advice to see how much money they could be saving themselves if they introduced environmental policies.

Programme manager for NetRegs Richard Martin said businesses need to focus their minds on costs.

"Reducing the amount of waste they send to landfills for instance, reducing their resources use, electricity, water and so on. There are definitely savings to be made there," he stated.

Mr Martin added that this is something the majority do not realise.

Research from startups.co.uk revealed a business can reduce its energy bills by 20 per cent by turning off lights in the evening, making sure computer screens are switched off, and using natural light as much as possible.
