Britain's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning to businesses in Scotland.
The organisation has called upon firms across the country to take action against the risks associated with workplace slips, trips and falls.
"Nearly 11 000 workers suffered serious injury as a result of a slip or trip last year. Reducing this unnecessary injury toll is a priority and Shattered Lives is our latest campaign," said the HSE, an organisation created as a consequence of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
"Slip and trip accidents can happen for a number of reasons, but all too frequently we jump to conclusions."
Indeed, according to the HSE, over the period between 2005 and 2006 workplace slips, trips and falls negatively affected Scottish society by more than £72,800,000.
It was also noted that such accidents account for 30 of all reported injuries in the workplace.
