HSE announces strategy to reduce business bureaucracy
Britain's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has emphasised the need to offer a balance with regulation and reduce the burdens faced by businesses in the UK.
Although the organisation has highlighted the role of regulations in offering protection to individuals within the workplace, the organisation believes that such regulations should be not only effective, but also fair.
Indeed, as a way of adhering to this commitment, the HSE has implemented a series of projects, including plans for simplification, risk management and a process whereby all legislation owned by the body is listed.
"Regulations are needed to protect people at work: but to avoid unnecessary burdens on business, it is important to strike the right balance," said the HSE.
"HSE is fully committed to ensuring that regulations are fair and effective for everyone," it added.
As part of its myth of the month series, the HSE has sought to debunk a number of workplace myths, including the idea that employees are not allowed to erect decorations for Christmas.
The HSE has also stressed that stepladders have not been banned.
