Britain's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has confirmed the introduction of regulations governing workplace noise within the entertainment and music sectors.

The organisation has confirmed that the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 (Noise Regulations) entered into force for the entertainment and music business sectors on April 6th 2008.

The regulations supersede the Noise at Work Regulations 1989.

"Noise at work can cause hearing loss that can be temporary or permanent. People often experience temporary deafness after leaving a noisy place," said the HSE.

"Although hearing recovers within a few hours, this should not be ignored."

Among the businesses now required to comply with the regulations are nightclubs and pubs - orchestras and live events involving amplified music are now also required to comply.

Other business sectors have been required to comply with the requirements of the regulations since April 2006.
