The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has highlighted the importance of flexible working for graduates.
Victoria Winkler, a representative for the CIPD - an organisation established in 2000 - believes that, not only are graduates more interested in flexible working programmes, obtaining the right balance between work and home-life is becoming more important.
The term flexible working can incorporate a number of strategies, including job sharing, working part-time, working from home and working compressed hours.
Moreover, Ms Winkler believes these issues are becoming increasingly focused upon by small to medium-sized enterprises.
"Smaller companies are as able as the larger companies to look at enticing people into the … job and the opportunities they will get," said Ms Winkler.
"Also, small businesses can look at things like flexible working and the whole work-life balance agenda which is increasingly important to the graduate."
