Going green can provide a financial reward
Small businesses can find being environmentally-friendly is "cost effective", according to one industry figure.
Charlotte High, a programme manager for SmartWorks, a support project run by charity Global Action Plan, said that small to medium-sized firms could find that "environmental savings" can result in "financial savings".
"Businesses we've worked with have made significant savings through looking at their operations and identifying energy and waste efficiencies," she explained.
Ms High continued that one business that SmartWorks collaborated with was able to make savings worth £13,000 through adopting new "environmental management practices".
Global Action Plan, which was established in 1993, works with a range of groups - such as businesses, schools and members of the public - to help them take action to reduce their impact on the environment.
It states that it has assisted thousands of people and businesses to make both environmental and financial savings.
