A group of German companies have concluded that the introduction of a vocational training system would be of benefit to the UK.
Following the implementation of a study by German Industry UK, it has been concluded that the implementation of a vocational scheme, built on the existing German model, would assist the UK by introducing apprenticeships co-sponsored by businesses and the government.
Moreover, respondents to the survey concluded that the standard of education obtained by Britain's young people was no more than satisfactory, reports the Financial Times.
"[Government-supported training schemes are] OK if you want to train people to be hairdressers and plumbers," said Bernd Atenstadt, the chief executive of German Industry UK. Under the German model, in addition to work-based training, education is also provided by colleges and schools with vocational specialisations.
Among the companies polled as part of the survey were BMW, Siemens, Thyssen-Krupp and Commerzbank. Established over 30 years ago, German Industry UK has a membership base of 100.
