The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has welcomed the extra time that Transport for London (TfL) has given firms to comply with the introduction of the low emission zone (LEZ).
TfL has introduced a 28-day warning period for vehicles that do not comply with the LEZ standards, which from February 4th will restrict vehicles from entering greater London that do not meet required EU emission standards.
"[TfL's] approach to the introduction of the scheme is very welcome news indeed. This will give businesses that weren't aware of the scheme and have vehicles that don't meet the emission standards more time to prepare," said FSB transport chairman Chris Glen.
Mr Glen also said that the LEZ will be costly for hauliers and small businesses, but that the FSB is in support of taking action to improve air quality in the capital.
According to TfL, an estimated 1,000 die prematurely each year in London as a result of the poor air quality.
