The Federation for Small Business (FSB) has spoken out over the increase in fuel duty expected in the forthcoming budget report. They have urged the government not to go ahead with the increase as it would have a negative impact on small business.
Chris Glen, FSB Transport Chairman, said: "Fuel prices are hurting small businesses and their customers in every sector and every area of the country. Now is not the time for the government to be adding to their problems by increasing fuel duty. After a really tough year and several major tax increases, small businesses deserve a break."
Contract cleaning company owner, Steve Brown, said: "We have seven vans which we use to get to our customers all over the country. Our fuel bills have gone up 14% in the last year. If there is another increase in duty we will have little choice but to pass this on to our customers."
