FSB cites potential benefits of Olympics

The UK's Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has announced that the forthcoming Olympic games could be a positive event for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Simon Briault, a representative for the FSB, an organisation established in 1974, announced that the 2012 games in London could represent a good opportunity for SME involvement.

However, Mr Briault offered a note of caution, suggesting that the impact of large organisations may make the reality a little different.

"The Olympics offer a really good opportunity for small businesses to get involved, develop new business start-ups and come up with new business ideas," said Mr Briault.

"However, there is at the moment quite a bit of scepticism among our members and among small business generally, that they will actually be able to get a piece of the pie."

There is concern - Mr Briault believes - that the largest beneficiaries of the games will be bigger organisations and their associated supply chains.
