With the mayoral elections for London looming, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has urged the successful candidate to engage with firms.

Current mayor Ken Livingstone, Conservative party member Boris Johnson and the Liberal Democrats' Brian Paddick are among those hoping to be voted in on Thursday - but the FSB is unconcerned by who wins, so long as the concerns of business are listened to.

Nick Winch, London policy manager at the federation, believes that under the current regime, business policies have tended to focus on larger companies.

He said of the forthcoming period: "There's a crucial role of facilitating growth and creating a climate where businesses can grow and create new jobs and also where new businesses can come along as well."

Mr Winch added that the FSB would like to see the new administration consulting with businesses to push economic development in the capital.
