FPB refutes claims that SMEs create more stress for staff

The UK-based Forum of Private Business (FPB) has sought to refute any suggestions that small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are more stressful places to work.

According to comments made by the FPB, staff in smaller organisations tend to be happier and that larger organisers contribute financial resources to the task of combating stress as managers are less aware - than those in smaller organisations - of what is happening on the ground.

The FPB has issued its comments following remarks made by Neil Shah, director of the Stress Management Society.

"The implication behind Mr Shah's comments is obviously that workers in small firms tend to be more stressed that those in large companies and receive less support," said Matt Hardman, campaigns manager for the FPB.

"But a workplace survey has revealed that people working in small firms are happier than those working for big business," he added.

Techniques for managing stress can include activities such as meditation and exercise.
