Female managers work longer hours than male counterparts
Female bosses work an average three hours longer per week than their male counterparts, according to new research.
The results of a study by Abbey showed that on average men work a 39.5 hour week while women work for 42.5 hours.
Small-to-medium business enterprise (SME) owners work an average of 2.5 hours less than those who work for other people, while over three-quarters of those polled said that working for themselves provides a better work-life balance.
Paula Ickinger, of Abbey Business Banking, said: "Whether women feel under pressure to work longer hours or that they just prefer to spend more time at work than men, both male and female SME owners say they have a better work-life balance than people who work for someone else."
Further findings from the research showed that SME bosses aged between 45 and 54 work the longest hours of all self-employed bosses working 44 hours a week.
A previous study from Abbey revealed that one in three entrepreneurs put their business before their health.
