Fast warns against use of illegal software
The Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) has issued a warning against the use of illegal software by businesses.
According to comments made by Clair Darke, group marketing manager for FAST, although illegal software will be of a comparable quality to legally licensed alternatives, they will lack any rights to support. "The quality will be the same because they are buying exactly the same product, but it won't have the support and maintenance that they would pay for if they bought it legally," said Ms Darke.
"It is important for all businesses to use properly licensed software," she added. Indeed, according to the results of a survey by the organisation, 22 per cent of business directors admitted to their company not operating with a written management policy for software.
Created by the copyright committee of the British Computer Society, Fast was established in 1984.
