Every small business should have a website

Getting a strong online presence early in the lifetime of a business can provide it with a real head start, according to one adviser.

While it is important to preserve the security of any new business with company insurance, it can also be beneficial to think about how the start-up can build up its profile. Startup Co, an advisory site for entrepreneurs established in 1982, believes that by having a website, a new enterprise can do this in three ways.

Firstly, the portal can act as a way of creating sales, taking orders from new and existing clients without the requirement of verbal contact.

Secondly, the site can operate as a "business card" for the firm, claims John de Groot, managing director of Startup Co.

Finally, it may be used as a way of building up the credibility of the company by presenting background information to potential customers on its pages.

"It can illustrate achievements, clients, partners, awards, editorial [and] opinion," explained Mr de Groot.
