Environmental awareness can save SMEs money
By becoming more conscious of environmental issues, small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can generate cost savings, it has been claimed.
According to comments made by a representative from Envirowise, a firm specialising in environment-related business issues, the implementation of environmental initiatives can generate a number of savings, as many do not result in the SME incurring costs.
Possible measures include turning off unnecessary lights and not wasting water.
"Some initiatives do have costs and if they do, you may want to look at payback periods," said the organisation's representative.
"But in general it makes good business sense because the amount of waste you are reducing and the raw materials that you save, the money you are saving, goes straight to your bottom line," he added.
Of the environmental measures that can be implemented by firms, up to a maximum of 85 per cent can be implemented without cost.
