Employment candidate questions placed under spotlight

It has been revealed that a number of prospective employers are still asking job candidates inappropriate questions.

According to information released by consumer group Which?, there are a number of UK-based organisations where bosses are asking job candidates questions which, although previously considered normal, are now no longer allowed.

The organisation has found that such questions are being asked, both at interviews and in application forms.

"Long gone are the bad old days when a nervous interviewee had to answer all sorts of questions about their lifestyle and their personal views," said Sue Tumelty, author of the Which? handbook on CVs and interviews.

"It helps to be aware of what you can and cannot be asked, so that you can feel confident in - politely - declining to answer any questions that make you uncomfortable."

Among the questions which can no longer be asked are those relating to age, religious convictions, sexual orientation and arrangements over childcare.
