Employers in dark over Unite

News from Simply Business - independent providers of business insurance, business finance, landlords insurance, buy-to-let mortgages, commercial mortgages and information for small and growing businesses.

A number of employers in the UK remain uncertain over the motives of trade union Unite (created from the merger between the Transport and General Workers' Union and Amicus earlier in the year), research has found.

According to the results of a study by Personnel Today, of those HR professionals with members of the union within their employee base, 55 per cent have never been contacted by a representative from the trade union.

"The new union is not yet six months old and it is easy to imagine that time may have been spent on internal matters to date," said Martin Warren, partner and head of the human resources practice group at Eversheds, the legal firm which provided sponsorship for the study.

"But the union is now in a position to spell out to employers and member employees alike what it stands for, and what its priorities are going to be," he added.
