The credit crunch could lead to fewer start-ups being established this year, it has been suggested.
According to Tanya Hine, president of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BAWE), explained that there remains barriers to female entrepreneurs wishing to start up their own business.
However, she added: "I think there'll be less start-ups [this year] full stop - not just female ones."
Ms Hine argued that because banks are expected to be "an awful lot tougher" on who they supply business finance to, as a result of the credit crunch, there will be fewer start-ups during 2008.
Commenting on chancellor Alistair Darling's Budget speech which allocated £12.5 million to encouraging more women to become entrepreneurs, Ms Hine called for action.
"Certainly in the past there has been a lot of words and a lot of chat," she added.
The BAWE is a not-for-profit organisation that is affiliated to Les Femmes Chefs d'Entreprises Mondiales, an international association of female business owners.
