A number of councils in the south-east have signed up to participate in a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) campaign on risk.

Dubbed 'sign up to sensible risk', the new campaign has gained adherents from 14 separate local authorities, all based in the areas of Medway and Kent.

The focus of the campaign aims to dispel myths which, the HSE believes, are negatively impacting upon the effectiveness of legislation in the field of health and safety.

"I invite all local authorities in the south-east to follow the excellent lead of Kent and Medway councils and join with us in embracing and practising the principles of sensible risk management," said Phil Scott, regional director in the south-east for the HSE.

On February 21st, the 14 local authorities will publicly confirm their commitment to the "ten principles of sensible risk management".

Separately, as part of its myth of the month series, the HSE has sought to dispel a number of falsehoods, including the idea that a prohibition had been placed on stepladders.
