CBI criticises quotas on economic migrants
The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has criticised the use of quotas on economic migrants.
According to comments made by Neil Carberry, head of employment policy at the CBI, the use of quotas in the regulation of migrants is a "blunt tool" and any systems should be structured on the basis of being led by demand.
Indeed, Mr Carberry went further, describing employment as one of the best ways to foster the integration of migrant workers.
"We supported the free movement for the eight countries who joined in 2004, and we would say that that's been clearly beneficial to the economy in helping address some of the short term skills and labour needs that the economy had," said Mr Carberry.
In related news, a recent report submitted to the House of Lords by supermarket chain Sainsbury's highlighted that the work ethic of migrant employees was in fact stronger than that of their British-born counterparts.
