Companies across the country are more aware of the need to ensure the safety of electronic data, it has been claimed.
According to comments made by Sheila Bailey-Wood, the director of operations at BSI British Standards, UK businesses are now more likely to consider backing up and protecting their electronic data in the event that it becomes necessary to implement a disaster recovery plan.
"I think that the 2000 planning started a lot of us, where people were conscious they might have some serious failures," said Ms Bailey-Wood.
Before 2000, there were concerns that because of a widespread programming decision, many computers manufactured before this date would be unable to correctly deal with dates and times after December 31st 1999.
"And, as the computers were changing then, I think increasingly awareness of keeping your records safe and protected," she added.
Data released in November 2007 by BSI British Standards demonstrates that 63 per cent of those businesses listed on the FTSE 250 consider themselves to be highly prepared, should they fall victim to a serious IT-related disaster.
