The positive impact of flexible working arrangements have been highlighted by the International Stress Management Association (ISMA).
According to the ISMA, flexible working arrangements act to reduce employee stress by enabling them to manage their own workload, within a timeframe that best suits them.
Fluctuations in the feelings of stress can cause a number of physical responses, including changes in blood pressure.
"A deadline is usually quite a good pressure: you get it done, you're quite happy with it, and then you move on," said Ann McCracken, vice chairman of the ISMA.
"But if you're continually under deadlines and continually under huge pressures, you need a break," she added.
In related news, the Health and Safety Executive has identified an assortment of stress-related risk factors, including the levels of support received from colleagues and managers, the amount of control enjoyed by the employee and the consequences of change.
