BCC urges halt to flexible working legislation
The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has urged the government not to immediately legislate on matters relating to flexible working, it has emerged.
In the wake of a recent report by the Equal Opportunities Commission into the matter, the BCC is urging the government to examine the practices being undertaken by employers before implementing legislation.
"Further legislation will particularly impact those small and medium-sized enterprises without the resource of an HR department," said Sally Low, director of policy and external affairs at the BCC.
"Politicians should actually look at the reality on the ground and realise that business is way ahead of them in ensuring flexible working becomes a reality," she added.
Indeed, according to the BCC, variations of flexible working practices are currently being implemented by 89 per cent of British firms.
