Applicants to some apprenticeship schemes find it exceptionally difficult to obtain a place, it has been claimed.
According to reports by the BBC, there are a number of different apprenticeship schemes across the country where students will find it more difficult to obtain a place compared with the odds of obtaining a place at Oxford University.
Those applying to an engineering course at Oxford University have to compete with odds of one-in-three.
"We've no doubt that young people's confidence in the value of an apprenticeship, as a route to a successful career, has increased," said Rod Kenyon, the director of the British Gas Academy.
"Our aim is to hire people who will help to make our business grow, and we've attracted people … who are proving to be a great asset," he added.
An apprenticeship with British Gas is so popular that those applying have much weaker odds when compared with those applying for the aforementioned Oxford course.
The odds of getting a place with British Gas are currently one-in-15.
British Gas now offers business insurance quotes online.
