Apprentice nominated for national award

An apprentice from Wrexham has received a nomination for an award because of the levels of commitment and dedication expressed during training, it has emerged.
According to reports by the Wrexham Evening Leader, Ben Cook, a telecommunications engineer with BT, has been nominated as a finalist for a learner award at the 2007 Modern Apprenticeship Awards.
Indeed, Mr Cook's trainer, Jerry Comber, has described the nominee as not only a "role model", but also an "excellent apprentice".
"The Modern Apprenticeship has made me realise that I don't have to settle for second best," said Mr Cook.
Jane Hutt, minister for children, education, lifelong learning and skills, added: "More than a decade after they were launched, Modern Apprenticeships are more popular than ever among ambitious people in Wales."
Completing his training six months ahead of schedule, Mr Cook is now the holder of an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in the field of information technology.
Apprenticeships first came into being during the latter period of the middle ages under the management of town governments and graft guilds.
