A majority of the UK's managers work for more than their contracted number of hours, it has been claimed.
The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) believes that close to nine out of every ten UK-based manager's work for longer than they are contractually obliged to do.
And, on average, the additional hours equate to the employee working for an extra 40 days every year.
"Why are employers ignoring the impact of long hours on the health and performance of their employees and what responsibility are employees taking for how they manage themselves?" said Jo Causon, director for marketing and corporate affairs at the CMI, a UK-based organisation established in 1947.
It was also found that a majority of those working additional hours did so as a way of dealing with either high workloads, or deadlines.
The CMI's findings were based upon the questioning of 1,511 individuals.
