Impact of postal strike serious for SMEs
A postal strike can have serious negative consequences for a small to medium-sized enterprise (SME), it has been suggested.
According to comments made by Belinda Webb, a representative from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), a postal strike can impact upon an SME to the extent that it leads to a life or death consequence for the business.
"[The postal strike] is a huge problem and small businesses have to factor that in and be aware," said Ms Webb.
"A cheque delayed in the post can mean the difference between life and death for a small business, if a cheque is expensive and it's vital to the cash flow of the business," she added.
Indeed, according to the FSB, 94 per cent of SMEs only make use of Royal Mail when sending things via post; although other providers do exist, many do not accept custom from SMEs.
