Shares have fallen in Asian markets during trading today.

According to reports, stocks in Asia have fallen during trading, as a consequence of fears in relation to the economic difficulties in the US.

There are also concerns that a wider recession may be a possibility and, according to the Financial Times, consumer confidence in the US is now at low-point not seen for 26-years.

"The fact that [General Electric] missed expectations really has spooked investors that the reporting season is going to show that the slowdown in the US is impacting corporate profits much more than expected," said Juliette Saly, an analyst with ComSec.

During the previous week, General Electric suffered from a six per cent fall in profits.

While the benchmark index in Shanghai declined by 4.4 per cent, the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong fell by three per cent.

In Japan, the Nikkei dropped by 2.8 per cent.
