Companies concerned by the business finance outlook in the UK have been advised not to judge national sectors on what may be happening in London.
The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) advised that while one in three firms have admitted they have moderated expansion plans in light of the effects of the credit crunch, the majority reported no significant effects.
Speaking at the BCC Convention in Liverpool, the body's director general David Frost was quoted by the Independent as saying his visits around the country have painted a brighter picture of business finance than is often offered by media reports.
"When I speak to [companies outside of London], be it in Aberdeen, Birmingham, St Helens or Rotherham, they not only inspire me with their success, but they tell me that whilst business is challenging they are doing well," said Mr Frost.
The BCC's research also revealed that 85 per cent of UK firms do not believe politicians have a grasp of the needs of business.
