BAWE reveals motivations behind female start-ups
A primary motivating factor for women who start their own business is that they "want to follow their dream", according to the president of the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs (BAWE).
Tanya Hine suggests that there a number of reasons why women start their own firm - these include both achieving their dream and escaping hostile working environments.
Ms Hine adds that it is now easier for businesswomen to set up a commercial venture. However, she does argue that women can still find the process harder than their male equivalents.
The president of the BAWE's comments follow research from enterprise support body Prowess which found the number of women seeking self-employment has increased by 10.4 per cent over the last 17 years.
The BAWE was originally founded in 1954 and is a not-for-profit organisation that supports entrepreneurs in expanding their firms through mentoring providing information on business finance.
