UK retail sales performed better than expected during September, according to new figures.

Sales rose by 0.6 per cent during the month, following a 0.4 per cent fall during August. [BBC]

Royal Mail moved one step closer to privatisation today as Ofcom announced that the organisation would be able to set its own prices.

The regulator has said that it will cap second-class letter prices, but prices for first-class letters and parcels, along with business and bulk mail, will be at the discretion of Royal Mail. [FT]
