Major corporations including Google and BT have launched a project to help get British businesses online.
The Get British Business Online (GBBO) project aims to help 100,000 businesses develop an online presence by the end of 2010. It is estimated that as many as 1.5 million UK firms have no such presence.
The GBBO scheme will provide businesses with a free .co.uk web address, and will enable firms to use the Google Sites technology to build their website - which GBBO say can be completed within 20 minutes. Firms would then only have to pay to renew their domain after two years.
As the scheme is rolled out, firms will also be able to take payments online using PayPal. Google will provide free analytics software, enabling businesses to track and analyse their traffic.
Firms interested in the GBBO scheme can sign up at www.gbbo.co.uk
