Almost 2m facebook fans for X-Factor

Consumer marketing proves once again it has the edge on b2b marketing, as the X-Factor flexes its muscle on facebook, achieving 1.75 million fans.

The popular ITV show has also collected 59,000 Twitter followers over it's autumn run, according to numbers just released by Talkback Thames Digital.

While the social media spaced certainly helped fuel the show's controversial aspect, it is debatable whether it encouraged more people to vote for the contestants.

The impressive figures are testiment to the power of social media when used in conjunction with a strong brand. So, while unlikely that any b2b company will be able to reach such lofty social media heights, there are certainly lessons to be taken away.
