The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has reported a massive rise in calls to its legal advice line, with many more small business owners seeking advice on redundancies.
The legal advice service saw an increase in call volume of 214 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2008, in line with increasingly swingeing cost-cutting exercises amongst small businesses. Advice on employment law and redundancy was particularly sought after.
FSB Chairman John Wright said that Britain "cannot afford to lose our vibrant small and medium sized business sector", pointing out that redundancies are as much a reality for small firms as they are for headline-grabbing corporations.
The FSB advice line provides help for Federation members, and is staffed by solicitors, barristers and tax experts.
