New Year cheer for tradesmen as petrol hits three year low

In a rare piece of good news for tradesmen, the AA confirmed yesterday that petrol prices in the UK have fallen to their lowest levels for three years.

The motoring organisation stated that unleaded petrol was being sold at an average price of 87.79p per litre. Further encouragement was given today by Tesco, which cut the price of their offerings to between 82.9p and 85.9p for unleaded, and 94.9p and 97.7p.

The cost of driving is obviously a significant concern for tradesmen, many of whom are continuing to feel the pinch as the construction sector grinds to a halt. Rising living costs have also presented problems, but falling oil prices promise to offset some of these price rises.

Oil looks set for its worst year on record, with prices falling to around $38 per barrel from a peak of $147 in July.
