The job market is to become increasingly competitive due to the current financial crisis, one recruitment expert has claimed.

According to Adecco, a temporary staff provider, it does not necessarily mean that companies are avoiding employing people.

However, the company stated that many firms will become much more selective about who they will bring on board due to financial concerns.

Steven Kirkpatrick, managing director of Adecco Retail, said: "It's likely that we"ll see a little window shopping on the part of employers."

"They'll want to stay close to the market to make sure that they still have access to the best people when they become available, but won't necessarily be hiring as freely as they have done in recent years," he stated.

Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics revealed that the number of unemployed people in the UK increased by 140,000 during the third quarter.
