The vast majority of tenants get on well with their landlords, according to the results of a new survey.

Findings from a study by the Deposit Protection Service (DPS) revealed that 84 per cent of renters have a good relationship with their landlord while nearly a quarter of this figure described it as fantastic.

The research showed that 16 per cent of respondents said they did not have a good relationship with a property owner.

Kevin Firth, director at the DPS, stated: "It's vital to ensure that you undertake good research to pick the right tenant or landlord in the first place - make sure you know who you're dealing with - but in the main tenants and landlords have a good relationship."

He added that since tenancy deposit schemes were introduced, very few disputes have had to be solved by the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) service.

Figures show 880 cases out of 113,000 repayments have gone via the ADR service.

Meanwhile, the DPS predicted that tenants and landlords should receive £2.5 million in interest from the schemes.
