Ensuring employees feel valued in the workplace can have a positive effect on the performance of their company, one business expert has said.
According to Michael C Fina, a global recognition firm, more needs to be done to raise awareness among employers of the benefits of rewarding employees.
Sheila Sheldon, director of European operations at Michael C Fina, said: "It's important because we all like to feel valued and we all like someone to tell us that what we're doing is actually meaningful and worthwhile."
He added that it is important for staff to feel their contribution is being recognised, whether this be done verbally or in writing.
The company added that firms should be able to see the impact this has on the bottom line of a business.
Meanwhile, a survey recently published by the Trades Union Congress revealed that the most common problem staff experience is an increased workload.
