Female entrepreneurs need self belief
Setting up your own business might seem like a distant and daunting prospect, but new research from everywoman and NatWest paints a very positive picture.
The companies have found that almost all female entrepreneurs (94 per cent) believe that their new life as a business owner is as good as or better than they had expected.
Furthermore, nine in ten of those self-employed businesswomen who were interviewed claimed to be hugely positive about others doing the same.
So how do you go about living this dream?
The study suggests that personal dedication and commitment are absolute essentials, particularly if your venture throws up unexpected challenges or takes a while to become successful.
Seven in ten argued that self-belief was crucial, with one in three believing hard work was needed to set up a private venture.
However, the sense of personal involvement and empowerment that comes from being your own boss is regularly cited as one of the most engaging things about owning a business and this is something that will undoubtedly make the long hours pass much more quickly.
And while hard work and dedication are taken as givens in the business world, coming up with an innovative and ground-breaking idea is apparently less important.
Only one in ten of the survey respondents said invention was necessary, with nine in ten saying they'd taken a product or service and adapted and improved it themselves.
The key things to remember, according to the new report, are:
- believe in yourself
- remember that hard work will bring with it a sense of achievement and personal satisfaction
- don't worry if your idea is not new, just perfect your plan and do thorough research into your market
