We’ve got something to celebrate here at Simply Business! We’ve just won first place in The Sunday Times’ Best Companies awards for the second year running.
Our CEO Jason Stockwood collected the trophy at the awards ceremony in London last night.
We were ecstatic when we won for the first time last year, but holding onto the top spot is particularly special. It means that we’ve really succeeded in creating a place where people want to work and we’re managing to retain our unique culture as we grow.
Speaking on the win, Jason said: “When I joined Simply Business in 2010, I knew something very special could be achieved here. I saw its raw potential, all that it required was a bit of direction. It’s a fact of modern business that by investing in a happy, engaged workforce you’re also investing in your customers. Getting it right internally is good for everybody, including the SMEs buying our products.
“Six years on we have grown from 130,000 to 350,000 small business customers and the workforce has doubled in size. This has only been possible by making every single member of the team feel empowered to achieve their full potential. I’m proud that Simply Business is the ‘Best Company to Work For’ for the second year running and hope that our approach to people management will encourage other businesses to think harder about their employees’ satisfaction and wellbeing.“
And although he was too humble to reveal it there, Jason also won the award for Best Leader!
An amazing achievement that’s a testament to the way he’s transformed Simply Business since he joined back in 2010.
A busy year at Simply Business
Since last year’s win, lots of exciting things have been happening at Simply Business. We’ve selected disabled children’s charity Whizz-Kidz as our new charity partner, celebrated dozens of staff passing their industry exams, and made remote working even easier.
At the moment we’re preparing for a hackathon, which gives staff across the business the opportunity to pause their day jobs and come together to focus on fixing problems or generating new ideas.
It’s collaborative, creative events like this – well-known in the tech industry but less common in finance companies – that help to make Simply Business a really special place to work.
Best Companies awards
The ‘Best Companies to Work For’ lists have been published since 2001, and hundreds of organisations take part each year. Rankings are based on employee answers to a series of questions about their workplace.
On Thursday night, the award for Best Small Company to Work For was won by Paragon Interiors, and the Best Not For Profit went to SLH Group for the third year in a row.
Last night Inchcape UK shared the limelight with Simply Business, as they were crowned the Best Big Company to Work For 2016. Find the full list of winners here, on the Best Companies website.
