More than 40 per cent of UK consumers choose to shop local.
This is according to new research from Everline, which found that two fifths of consumers are loyal to three or more local businesses, choosing them over their larger competitors.
Shoppers in Northern Ireland are the most likely to shop local, with a third buying from more than four local businesses on a regular basis.
Everline also asked consumers what changes would make them more likely to shop local. According to their research price remains the key concern for more than 50 per cent of consumers.
Better product ranges, new promotions, and better customer service also ranked highly.
Everline managing director Russell Gould said: “This research confirms the importance of small businesses to local communities, and highlights that they deserve support not just from consumers, but from the government, the wider corporate landscape, and the finance industry as well.
“It’s important to enable SMEs to grow their businesses and encourage loyalty, whether that is through hiring skilled people, investing in promotional materials, or expanding into new business areas.”
