This summer we celebrated reaching 200,000 customers, and we presented unsuspecting customer number 200,000 with an iPad.
Business analyst and tester Jacquie was the very-surprised recipient of the shiny new tablet device when she put her insurance policy purchase through. Our celebrations so far have focused on hearing the stories of existing customers and celebrating the vibrant state of British business. You can read our favourites from the campaign here. We asked Jacquie to share her story too.
How did you come to start your own business?
I started my own business in 2003 following being made redundant from my job as a consultant in Financial Services. I had known that redundancy was looming so in the year before redundancy I studied Corporate Stress Management with a view to working within Financial Services. Hence calling my company Stress-Ed.
However, things didn’t pan out as expected and money was fast running out when a colleague I used to work with told me about a contract job as a software tester in a large financial company. I stayed in that contract for nine months. I now travel around the South of England working both as a business analyst and tester. I have been fortunate to have interesting assignments with a flexible approach to working.
What’s the best thing about what you do?
Working for yourself means flexibility and planning your year around work. You also get the opportunity to work with many wonderful people from all over the world that you wouldn’t get the opportunity to meet otherwise. During my last contract I worked with French, Spanish and Italian consultants who all brought a new flavour to the pot.
What’s been your most memorable moment?
I can’t think of a specific moment that stands out for me, but it’s always nice when a contract is extended as it reinforces that the client is satisfied with your work and that's always a lovely feeling.
What’s next for you and your business?
My dream is to combine work, travel and living in Florida for six months of the year so I am setting up a number of new businesses and will be taking out any further insurance with Simply Business.
Thank you once again for such a lovely prize. It will be put to great use with my business.
